Hi everyone,
Happy Bandcamp Friday! Today Bandcamp waives their revenue share, which means more of your support goes directly to the artists. If you’d like to help me out, it’s a perfect day to pre-order my new album Back and Forth. 🎻 Click here to pre-order Back and Forth is my forthcoming traditional tune fiddle album, due for release next Friday February 13th, featuring piano from Michael Biggins, guitar from Innes White and piano accordion from Andrew Waite. I’m so excited to finally be sharing these tunes with you. Celtic Connections HighlightsJanuary was a whirlwind — I was lucky enough to bring both of my current projects to Celtic Connections this year. I performed a Back and Forth set with Michael Biggins on piano, and also presented my song project The Highest Blossom with guitarist Heather Cartwright. Michael and I also had the pleasure of performing live on a special Celtic Connections episode of Travelling Folk, recorded in front of a live audience. We played two tune sets and even included a couple of songs. If you’re based in the UK, you can listen back here: 🎧 Travelling Folk link It was such a special experience to share both sides of my work at the festival, and I’m so grateful to the Celtic Connections team, and everyone who came along and supported the concerts. 📸 Photos by Nicky Murray from the Recital Room gig included below! More on The Highest Blossom (and what’s coming next with that project) very soon… Michael Biggins will be in Ireland from Glasgow in February, and we have a few launch concerts lined up to celebrate the release of Back and Forth. I’d absolutely love to see some familiar faces at any of these: February 17th – The Black Horse, Cavan - tickets here February 19th – The Folk Café, Kiltimagh - tickets here February 20th – O’Connor’s, Doolin (as part of the Russell Festival) - free entry If you’re thinking of coming along, it would be really appreciated if you can buy tickets in advance, as it helps me get a sense of numbers and plan the nights properly. Thanks so much, as always, for listening, sharing, coming to gigs, and supporting the music. It really means the world. Warm wishes, Gráinne 🎻 My Website 🎶 Bandcamp

Newcomer is very nearly finished and you have a chance to order a copy TODAY! I have launched a Crowdfunding Campaign on Indiegogo and hope to raise £5000. This will make up the remainder of my album budget, and fund a big CD launch in Glasgow (June 5th in Cottiers Theatre). Rewards for pledges include the album itself (signed of course!), CD launch tickets, tune commissions and more. Have a wee gander by clicking the button below: The album will consist of seven instrumental tracks and three songs, two of which are poems of MacGill's I have put to music, and one self-penned song. Award winning musician and composer Mike Vass is engineering/producing the album and accompanying me, a host of amazing musicians; Michael Biggins (piano), Innes White (guitar), Steve Forman (percussion), Christine McGinley (French horn) and a string section; Seonaid Aitken (violin), Sarah Leonard (viola) and Su-a Lee (cello), with very special guests Andrew Waite (accordion), Tina Jordan Rees (flute), Jack Houston (spoken word) and Claire Hastings (vocals). Sneak peak below of the album artwork by Somhairle MacDonald.
I'm thrilled that my second studio album 'Newcomer' is under production. In October I went into GloWorm Recordings in Glasgow with a group of fantastic musicians who brought my music to life: Innes White (guitar), Andrew Waite (accordion), Michael Biggins (piano), Steve Forman (percussion), Christine MacGinley (French horn), Seonaid Aitken (violin), Sarah Leonard (viola), Su-a Lee (cello), Tina Jordan Rees (flute) and Jack Houston (spoken word), with Mike Vass as engineer/producer.
'Newcomer' will focus on a literary heroine explored in Donegal writer Patrick MacGill’s novel 'The Rat Pit'. Norah Ryan was a woman of strength and beauty who nevertheless was vulnerable to poverty, sexual exploitation, and great emotional loss.
