Newcomer - Cottiers Theatre

9/1/2021

I'm delighted to confirm that Newcomer will be officially launched at Cottiers Theatre, Glasgow on Sept 23rd 2021. There's been a lot of uncertainty the last 18 months, but now with restrictions lifted, I can safely start planning!

The theatre is a lovely big space, and seating will be cabaret style. Children are also allowed in the theatre (and in the bar/restaurant until 8pm) so bring your kids too!

Joining me on stage will be Seonaid Aitken, Sarah Leonard and Su-a Lee on strings, Fergus Kerr on French horn, Steve Forman on percussion/sound effects, as well as the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of 2021, Michael Biggins on piano. Special guests include Tina Jordan Rees on flute, Claire Hastings on vocals, and Andrew Waite on accordion.

Newcomer is very nearly finished and you have a chance to order a copy TODAY!

I have launched a Crowdfunding Campaign on Indiegogo and hope to raise £5000. This will make up the remainder of my album budget, and fund a big CD launch in Glasgow (June 5th in Cottiers Theatre). Rewards for pledges include the album itself (signed of course!), CD launch tickets, tune commissions and more. Have a wee gander by clicking the button below:

The album will consist of seven instrumental tracks and three songs, two of which are poems of MacGill's I have put to music, and one self-penned song. Award winning musician and composer Mike Vass is engineering/producing the album and accompanying me, a host of amazing musicians; Michael Biggins (piano), Innes White (guitar), Steve Forman (percussion), Christine McGinley (French horn) and a string section; Seonaid Aitken (violin), Sarah Leonard (viola) and Su-a Lee (cello), with very special guests Andrew Waite (accordion), Tina Jordan Rees (flute), Jack Houston (spoken word) and Claire Hastings (vocals).

Newcomer

I'm thrilled that my second studio album 'Newcomer' is under production. In October I went into GloWorm Recordings in Glasgow with a group of fantastic musicians who brought my music to life: Innes White (guitar), Andrew Waite (accordion), Michael Biggins (piano), Steve Forman (percussion), Christine MacGinley (French horn), Seonaid Aitken (violin), Sarah Leonard (viola), Su-a Lee (cello), Tina Jordan Rees (flute) and Jack Houston (spoken word), with Mike Vass as engineer/producer.

'Newcomer' will focus on a literary heroine explored in Donegal writer Patrick MacGill’s novel 'The Rat Pit'. Norah Ryan was a woman of strength and beauty who nevertheless was vulnerable to poverty, sexual exploitation, and great emotional loss.
The album will feature seven instrumental tracks, some with spoken word, and three songs, two of which are poems of MacGill's I have put music to, and a self-penned song.

The project is partly funded by Creative Scotland, and I will be running a Crowdfunding campaign in March to raise the remainder of the funds, and also to cover costs for my album launch which will take place in Cottier's Theatre, Glasgow on June 5th 2020.
